Eco House in Brighton & Hove, Sussex
The site in Brighton, Sussex is currently occupied by a 1950’s chalet bungalow with a poor internal configuration and awkward bedrooms under the pitched roof.
The scheme transforms the bungalow into a modern contempory house with an open plan living space on the ground floor and 4 bedrooms on the first floor. The flat roof maximises the internal space while minimising the visual impact and makes for easy installation of a green roof and solar panels hidden behind the parapet wall
The remodelling retains the existing foot print and ground floor structure, thereby retaining the embodied energy in the materials and significantly reducing the budget. The first floor timber structure and the masonry ground floor will be wrapped in a continuous layer of external insulation, which in conjunction with high performance fenestration, will provide a highly efficient building.
A whole house ventilation system (MVHR) will provide fresh air and a comfortable living environment and the house could be certified under the Passivhaus Standard.
